Breakfast Seminar about the Land Information System (LIS) was organised by PSFU at Sheraton Kampala Hotel recently

Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU) in collaboration with the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development (MLHUD) embarked on an exercise to develop land administration and contracted IGN-FI to lead a Consortium with support from the World Bank for the Design, Supply, Installation, Implementation of the Land Information System and Securing of Land Records (DeSILISoR) Project.  

The new Land Information System (LIS) will apply to freehold, leasehold and mailo titles; reduce the time required to check, update and transfer land titles; increase the security of land registration; reduce corruption associated with checking, updating or transferring land titles; and deliver services closer to the public.             
PSFU organised a breakfast seminar to provide stakeholders with an update on the implementation of the LIS Project. The Seminar took place on 8th February 2013 at Sheraton Kampala Hotel. The key stakeholders who attended this seminar included; Ministry of Lands officials, Buganda Land Board, Bankers, Lawyers, Surveyors, Architects and Real Estate Dealers among others.  

Hon. Daudi Migereko Minister of Lands Housing and Urban Development (MLHUD) was the Chief Guest. He noted that the main objective of the intervention was; Improvement in internal efficiency of the Land Registry;   Reduction in the time it takes to register transactions; Availability of an online facility for Courts and Financial institutions to access and pay for land information; Enhance the revenue generation by the Land sector.

Hon Migereko also informed the participants that Cabinet had approved the National Land Policy which will provide a framework on how land will be managed and administered in Uganda for the next 30 years. The Land Registry has been further decentralized to 5 other zonal Offices of Jinja, Mukono, KCCA, Wakiso, Masaka and Mbarara. All these Zonal Offices including the Ministry headquarters will be open to the public by end of February. For details go to www.psfuganda.org.ug
